Luke Shaw tips unstoppable team-mate for Ballon d’Or

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has opined that there is no reason why team-mate Marcus Rahsford can’t go on to win the Ballon d’Or as he has been unstoppable this season.

Marcus Rashford has scored 14 Premier League goals for the Red Devils this season and has 19 in all competitions thus far. This is his best season for the club since he came to limelight at Old Trafford.

Although he has not been in action since January due to a back injury, he’s now fit and ready to play when the Premier League returns next week, with United traveling to face Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, 19 June.

Luke Shaw revealed how impressed he was with the 22-year-old forward and feels that if he continues consistently at his rate of progression, he can end up winning the top individual prize of the game.

‘He’s looked unstoppable at times this season and he’s looked so confident.’ Shaw told Manchester United’s official website.

‘I haven’t seen that in him before. He was always confident, but not to this level, and he’s matured so much.

‘He knows he has the ability to be one of the best and he’s pushing himself all the time to maximise that. There’s no reason why, if he keeps going, keeps pushing himself, that he can’t win it [the Ballon d’Or] one day.’

Shaw pointed out that Rashfood hasn’t just improved football-wise, but has also been of good conduct outside the pitch, considering his significant involvement in charity work.

The England international played his part in helping charity FareShare raise more than £20m recently and added that he is a perfect example to everyone at the club.

‘He’s improved greatly from when he first came on the scene, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well,’ Shaw said.

‘He’s matured so much. He’s really turned into a man and I think everyone’s seen the way he’s conducted himself off the pitch; especially during this pandemic, he’s been unbelievable.

‘He’s a massive example to everyone. He’s matured so much and a lot of credit for that goes to him and also to his family, who have kept him very grounded.’

Rashford’s last game for Manchester United was in the FA Cup clash against Wolves on 15 January, where he limped off. He’s expected to be in action against former manager Jose Mourinho’s Spurs next Friday in the Premier League.
