Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who is currently against continuing with the Bundesliga giants. It is also added that the 29-year-old is seeking out for a new adventure following his six-year stint in Germany and Anfield could be his destination. Thiago has a chance to sign for his former club Barcelona if they are to exercise his buy-back clause of €25m. Adding to that, Bayern have reportedly affixed a price tag worth £72m for the Spaniard and no wonder he is valued highly.

However, Bavarians’ manager Hansi Flick has brushed off the transfer talks as he wants him to be an integral part of his team.

“There is no [contract] news. We always talk, almost every day, but there is no news, Fick told in the press conference ahead of Wolfsburg clash.” (h/t Goal.com)

“I see him every day at practice and the games. There are always so-called experts who have their own opinions. When you see him on the pitch and in training, you see his extraordinary quality in possession of the ball.”

He also added that Thiago is the catalyst to the side and always gives something special in games. Such high praise from Flick doesn’t come as a surprise given Thiago’s importance to the Bundesliga giants this season and over the years. The Spaniard is currently out injured and is expected to be fully fit before the Champions League resumes in August.

The possibilities of Thiago returning to the Camp Nou are looking bleak as they have reportedly agreed on terms with Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic – in a swap deal involving Arthur. Furthermore, the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets – still has got plenty in his tank – and the young talents like Riqui Puig and Carles Alena would make them bloated in the event of signing Thiago.

Liverpool can reap the reward from the Spaniard as he offers much on the ball – creativity and progression – than compared to the current players like Jordan Henderson, Wijnaldum and Milner. Though Thaigo’s goal-scoring abilities have reduced over the years – this is due to his evolution as a deep-lying-playmaker unlike his formative years, and the earlier spells with Bavarians – his eye for creativity, ball circulation and the flair can’t be taken for granted.

The Reds have been confirmed as the Premier League title winner after Manchester City dropped points last night, thus ending their long trophy drought. While Jurgen Klopp’s men are yet to set alight the transfer business unlike Chelsea, Thiago wouldn’t be a bad signing at all to commence with.

Although Thiago is on the cusp of entering his 30s, he is currently in his prime years and can bring a lot to the Reds’ midfield. And a move to the Premier League would be a massive test to his resiliency.
