Liverpool ace rubbishes speculation linking him with a return to boyhood club | Shoot

Liverpool fans had plenty to cheer about on Saturday, as they witnessed their side thrash Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield, courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino.

Jurgen Klopp’s side reiterated their Premier League title credentials, and the win kept them within four points of current leaders Chelsea.

The joy surrounding the result was also buoyed by the return of Thiago Alcantara, who made his first start since September in the convincing victory over the Gunners.

The Spanish midfielder has impressed since his highly-anticipated move from Bayern Munich just over a year ago, but he has been hampered by both injury and illness in recent months.

Now, the former Bundesliga midfielder has spoken about his decision to join the Reds, and reiterated that he firmly believes he made the right decision.

“100% I made the right choice, the right move,” he said when questioned on the subject in the build up to Liverpool’s Champions League encounter with Porto on Wednesday evening.

“You never know because the injuries make you stop your frequency to play, to know much more of how your team performs on the pitch.”

The 30-year-old also rubbished speculation that he could soon leave the club, with a return to Barcelona rumoured.

As per the Liverpool Echo, the midfielder had been linked with a return to Catalunya, but he has now rubbished the rumours and insisted that he is fully focussed on Liverpool.

Thiago remains fully committed to Liverpool.

“As I always have been, I am a guy who plays football – I am not concerned about the football.” he insisted.

“I’m focussed on the duty I have with my team and the years I have in contract with my team.

“I just want to know about this new adventure that I have here in the Premier League and try to win all the trophies I can. My commitment is maximum to this team.”

After spending time in the club’s La Masia academy, Thiago left Barcelona in 2013 having made exactly 100 appearances for the club.

During his career, the Spaniard has won 28 trophies, including two Champions Leagues and 11 league titles.
