Levy told to spend Kane riches on three new attacking Tottenham signings

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been told that he should spend the funds from any potential sale of Harry Kane on three new attacking players this summer.

Reports emerged on Monday that the England skipper told Spurs he wanted to move on after another trophyless campaign at his boyhood club. That has led to the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City all showing an interest in the prolific marksman.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed another outstanding campaign, with a combined 36 goals and assists in 33 Premier League outings.

But after Tottenham were beaten by City in the Carabao Cup final, rumours began to circulate of Kane’s unhappiness.

Kane has shown plenty of patience in ignoring all talk of a potential move in recent seasons. However, he appears to be at the end of his tether, with a move looking more and more likely.

If Levy does decide to do business, which still remains a big if, then he would demand around £150m for Spurs’ talisman.

A report in the Daily Express claims that all three suitors would be willing to pay that huge valuation.

That sort of figure would certainly provide whoever the new manager of the club is with significant funds to strengthen.

And Harry Redknapp, who managed the club between 2008 and 2012, thinks Levy should chase Brentford’s 31-goal hitman Ivan Toney.

He also highlighted Southampton’s Danny Ings as a potential replacement for Kane. However, Redknapp acknowledged that replacing the England skipper will be incredibly hard.

Redknapp told talkSPORT: “Are you going to take a gamble? Are you going to go for someone like the lad at Brentford?

“There is no guarantee he can score at the top level. There are not an awful lot of [available] centre-forwards. Jamie Vardy is at Leicester, he’s not going to move, who is there that you could take to Tottenham and fill Harry Kane’s boots?

“Danny Ings is a good player, I love him. He’s a good goalscorer. I’m not being disrespectful to Danny, as good as he is, he isn’t Harry Kane.

“So you’re not going to strengthen the team by bringing him in, there is no one you can bring in who will strengthen the team.

“They could go out and spend the money, get three or four good players in different positions, get another central defender, maybe get another frontman, get the best out of Dele Alli, get him back playing the way we know he can.

“Get three or four players that will strengthen the team in several positions.”

Bent talks up another Tottenham option

Redknapp’s comments were echoed by Darren Bent, who also thinks his club should try and bring in Wilfried Zaha.

“You’re going to have to start getting goals from other areas,” added Bent. “I’ve spoken about Danny Ings, he’s not a direct replacement, but he’ll get you goals.

“[Spurs need] someone like Wilfried Zaha. Get him in the squad, you’d be able to get him if you’ve got £150m to spend. You’ll have to add additions all over the Spurs team, we’ve seen them try that before and they failed miserably.

“Recruitment could be better this time around. Zaha and Ings would be a good start.”

Kane is said to want his future resolved by the start of Euro 2020. But given Levy’s tendency to drag out big deals, especially sales, that looks unlikely.
