Jose Mourinho spoke to Thomas Meunier about the defender joining Tottenham but Daniel Levy was not keen on a deal for the former Paris Saint-Germain star, according to reports in France.
Back in April, we relayed a report from French outlet L’Equipe that claimed Spurs had made contact with PSG over a summer move for Meunier – but the Belgium international has now agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.
L’Equipe are now back with another story on Tottenham’s interest in Meunier, suggesting a disagreement between manager and chairman was responsible for the transfer’s failure to go through.
The report, as relayed by Sport Witness, claims Mourinho personally spoke to Meunier, who apparently wasn’t against the idea of joining Spurs.
However, it is believed Levy was not on the same page as Mourinho and so Tottenham ended their interest in the 28-year-old.
It’s unclear why Levy did not want to pursue Meunier, especially with the squad lacking quality right-backs – Serge Aurier continues to frustrate while Kyle Walker-Peters is out on loan at Southampton and faces an uncertain future.
