Leicester City blow West Brom away and all but end their hopes of survival

    Too easy

Leicester pulled themselves four points ahead of West Ham and further ahead of the chasing pack for the Champions League places as they blasted West Brom away in 13 first half minutes to cement their hold on third place in the league.

It completed an excellent week for the club following their victory in the FA Cup semi final on Sunday and a date with Chelsea in the final.

For West Brom, it was a poor night and their hopes of survival are all but gone as they find themselves 9 points from safety and  a goal difference of -34 goal. After back to back victories against Chelsea and Southampton hopes were high for another great escape, but it seems highly unlikely now.

The game started at a frantic pace and both sides missed good chances to score, but West Brom’s Mbaye Diagne really should have done better and the game could have been very different had he of connected with the ball when six yards out.

Leicester took the lead after 23 minutes when Youri Telemans played a lovely pass to Timothy Castagne who squared to to Jamie Vardy to blast home.

They doubled their lead and effectively ended the game just 3 minutes later when Jonny Evans thumped a header home against his former team.

Ten minutes later the game was over as Jamie Vardy burst into the area and just as it looked like he was going to curl the ball home, he slide it to Kelechi Iheanacho who took a touch and clipped the ball home.

Leicester did great further opportunities to score in the second half but also made made changes as the game clock ran down.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game Brendan Rodgers said “It was a good win, any win is a big win. Our intensity was really good in the first half hour. I wasn’t happy at half time as our passing wasn’t good enough.”

I am not thinking about the other teams, we have to think about ourselves. We can only control ourselves. Jamie Vardy has done it throughout his career and Kelechi Iheanacho is now showing his qualities-he can still improve as he is still making too many mistakes, but he is getting there. “

“This group will sometimes lose games but they are so honest and they want to be better. When you have that it is the dream ticket. It is all you can ask for as a coach.”
