Juventus leading the race for talented striker Gianluca Scamacca

The Italian youngster has impressed in Serie B this season.

According to a report from SempreMilan, Juventus are ahead of AC Milan in the transfer pursuit of Italian striker Gianluca Scamacca. The Sassuolo-bound striker is currently showcasing his talent with Serie B side Ascoli on loan and has been productive this season. Benfica, Inter Milan are said to be keeping an eye on the Italy U-21 international, with his agent confirming that there are little chances for Scamacca to play for Sassuolo next season. Bianconeri are now said to have beaten the likes of Rossoneri for the signing of the young striker.

    Juve’s search for attacking reinforcements

The Bianconeri have been linked with a multitude of attackers in recent times, which indicates their intention to strengthen the forward line. With Gonzalo Higuain unlikely to continue in the long run – as he has been linked with a return to Argentina – and Cristiano Ronaldo not being in the clubs’ long term plans, the links with Raul Jimenez, Arkadiusz Milik and Gabriel Jesus look more than reasonable.

Scamacca’s transfer interest looks like a shrewd one, and with his addition, Juve can get hold of a player for the future. The 21-year-old has been impressive for Ascoli this season as he had racked up 12 goals and 2 assists in all competitions – 4 goals in just 2 appearances in Coppa Italia this season. Scamacca has represented his country at various age levels, and certainly, he can play for the senior side as well if he opts to make a move to a club of Juve’s stature.

Maurizio Sarri has deployed an unconventional 4-2-3-1 in his first season as a manager in charge at Turin – a style that emphasizes a diamond shape in midfield. While Sarri’s fate is yet to be determined for next season – depends on Scudetto – nonetheless, the former Napoli boss can benefit from the signing of an out-and-out striker. Sarri can also revert to his traditional 4-3-3, and allow Dybala and Ronaldo to take up the role as inside forwards.

A profile like Scamacca’s may raise doubts over whether he could adapt to life in Serie A quickly, but he has huge potential to achieve so.

Juve have made a name for themselves in the transfer market unlike before – the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Matthijs de Ligt and Arthur say it so. Besides, they always put a greater emphasis on young talents such as the capture of Dejan Kulusevski from Parma.

The Old Lady are currently at the top of the table but facing a serious threat for their title defence from Lazio, who are close behind their trail.
