Juventus’ horrible record without Ronaldo this season

CR7 almost never fails to deliver, but the Old Lady’s excessive reliance on him is proving to be destructive.

A Cristiano Ronaldo-less Juventus have – to say the least – a horrible record this season.

Ronaldo was forced to sit out the Serie A clash with Atalanta on Sunday, and Juventus dropped all three points.

It was the seventh game the Portuguese attacker missed this season, having failed to feature in four of his side’s matches in October due to a positive coronavirus diagnosis, one near the end of November, and one in January.

The Bianconeri managed, as Football Italia points out, only two wins in those six games – against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League and against SPAL in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Andrea Pirlo’s men were beaten 3-0 by FC Barcelona in the Champions League group stages and picked up 1-1 draws against Crotone, Hellas Verona, and Benevento in Serie A.

It’s hard not to depend on the aging superstar, considering the fact that he remains one of the world’s best finishers and a true match-winner, but Juventus should have been able to cope without him in the few games he missed this season.

With an impressive tally of 32 goals in 37 games in all competitions, Ronaldo is Juventus’ top goalscorer in 2020-21.
