Juventus Handed Aaron Ramsey Fitness Boost Before Crotone Clash

Juventus have allayed fears of another injury setback for Aaron Ramsey by declaring he has not suffered a muscle problem.

Ramsey has been away with the Wales squad for Nations League duty, playing the full 90 minutes as Ryan Giggs’ side secured a point away against Republic of Ireland on matchday three.

However, the 29-year-old suffered a scare in the aftermath of the stalemate, flying back to Turin to have tests on a muscle problem, leaving him unavailable for Wales’ away clash against Bulgaria on Wednesday.

Andrea Pirlo’s side have since released a statement quelling the situation, but revealed he would still be monitored until the weekend.

It read: “Whilst awaiting the return of the players called up by their national teams, Juventus continued their training today [Wednesday], ahead of Saturday’s match away to Crotone.

“The preparation continued with a morning session in the gym. Tomorrow [Thursday], Coach Pirlo’s men will train in the afternoon.

Injuries curtailed Ramsey‘s debut season with I Bianconeri, with the lack of match sharpness limiting him to just 11 Serie A starts. Since Maurizio Sarri’s departure, new boss Pirlo has handed Ramsey consecutive starts in the league, with the Welshman grabbing an assist on the opening day.

Playing predominately in central midfield last term, Juventus’ revised 3-4-1-2 setup has allowed Ramsey more freedom in advanced positions, where he has so far thrived.

Aside from Ramsey, Pirlo’s side will need to contend with the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo, who tested positive for COVID-19 while away with the Portugal national side. He will be forced to quarantine and miss the match, while he may potentially be unavailable for the upcoming Champions League tie against Barcelona.
