Jose Mourinho confirms Spurs attacker has a hamstring problem

Jose Mourinho has revealed Dele Alli has a hamstring problem but could play against Everton on Monday night.

Tottenham face the Toffees hoping to get their push for Champions League qualification back on track, though finishing in the top four or five will now be difficult after Thursday’s defeat at Sheffield United.

Alli was dropped to the bench for the trip to Bramall Lane and struggled to make an impact when brought on in the second half. Mourinho will continue to search for answers in attack on Monday.

But he might be without Alli. In his press conference on Saturday afternoon – as relayed by the London Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick – Mourinho confirmed the attacking midfielder has picked up a hamstring injury. But it seems it isn’t a serious one.

The Spurs boss suggested Alli could indeed be fit for the Everton game, which means the injury is likely a tweak rather than anything potentially season-ending like a tear.

The question is: will Alli be recalled to the starting line-up if fit?

Steven Bergwijn was arguably Tottenham’s most dangerous attacker against Sheffield United, but he was taken off just 10 minutes into the second half. If Mourinho believes Bergwijn isn’t doing enough, perhaps Alli will replace the Dutchman.
