How Christian Eriksen played role in Spurs missing out on Milan Skriniar – report

Tottenham were not able to tempt Inter Milan into selling Milan Skriniar for less than his €60 million asking price this summer because of Daniel Levy’s stance on Christian Eriksen back in January, according to reports in Italy.

Spurs were seemingly keen on signing a centre-back during the transfer window but were unable to get a deal for Skriniar over the line. They are now said to be working on a move for Swansea City’s Joe Rodon before the EFL deadline on Friday (via the Telegraph).

And details have suddenly emerged as to why Tottenham’s pursuit of Skriniar came to an end.

Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claims Inter would not budge on their £60 million valuation of Skriniar because Spurs chairman Levy did the same thing with Eriksen’s price tag earlier this year.

Apparently, Levy refused to accept an offer lower than €20 million for Eriksen, which provoked Inter to take the same stance with Skriniar. Tottenham simply couldn’t afford to pay the required €60 million, so the Slovakian stayed at the San Siro.

The blow of that fumbled deal will be softened if Tottenham do manage to seal a deal for Rodon this week.
