How Belgium intend to pay tribute to Eriksen against Denmark

    Eriksen’s collapse

It was a shocking moment in the game between Finland and Denmark when, late in the first half, Christian Eriksen collapsed of his own accord.

The medics were immediately ushered on, and disturbing footage showed a striken Eriksen being given defibrillator shocks as his teammates formed a human shield around him.

Fortunately for everyone, Eriksen survived the ordeal, and is now recovering in hospital.

Although it remains unclear if he will be able to return to the sport that he loves, the most important thing is that he is alive.

    Tributes flood in

Tributes to Eriksen flowed in from his former and current team-mates that day.

Inter Milan team-mate Romelu Lukaku, upon scoring for Belgium (Who played later that day), ran over to the camera to shout “Chris, Chris… I love you” in a tribute to the Danish internaitional.

Likewise, Heung-Min Son, together with Eriksen at Tottenham Hotspur, dedicated his goal for South Korea over Lebanon to the midfielder. Son held up the number 23, the shirt number that Eriksen wore during his time at North London.

And in Denmark’s first game since the ordeal, Lukaku has been speaking to the press about how they will pay tribute to the Dane.

Lukaku, who is joined by fellow Belgians Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Nacer Chadli as having played with Eriksen before, outlined plans to kick the ball out in the tenth minute for a minutes applause for Eriksen.

Romelu Lukaku says the Belgium players will kick the ball out of play in the 10th minute of their game against Denmark so the stadium can pay tribute to Christian Eriksen with a minute’s applause 👏 👏

It remains to be seen how the two sides will deal with the situation, but on the face of it, the gesture is certainly a classy one.
