Harry Kane speaks out after scoring first goal for six months

Harry Kane expressed his delight after scoring his first Tottenham goal since returning from injury against West Ham United on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, who was making just his second appearance since tearing his hamstring against Southampton on New Year’s Day, doubled Spurs’ lead with a calm finish in the 82nd minute after latching only Heung Min Son’s pass – his first since netting against Norwich City 178 days ago.

Kane was criticised for his performance in the draw with Manchester United on Friday – most notably by former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson, who suggested that the striker would struggle to score 25-30 goals playing for Jose Mourinho – but responded to those claims in the perfect way.

Initially, it looked like being another frustrating night for Kane, who squandered a golden chance at the beginning of the second-half before firing a number wayward shots at goal.

However, like so often over the previous six seasons, the England captain came up with the goods when Tottenham needed him most to seal a huge three points for Mourinho’s side.

And Kane was clearly happy with his contribution.

“Waited a long time for that! Perfect night to win and get back on the scoresheet. #COYS,” he said on Twitter.
