Nancy hit with transfer ban
Ligue 2 club AS Nancy were handed a transfer ban by DNCG and a restriction on their wage bill.
Financial problems have bombarded French football due to the Mediopro controversy which saw a multi-million euro television deal collapse as a lack of subscribers meant the company had overpaid for the privilege of broadcasting the matches.
This meant clubs across the country did not get the money they were expecting and worse it occurred during the pandemic which led to a exponentially worsening instance for teams to deal with.
For example, financial expert Swiss Ramble broke down the numbers for French teams currently in debt.
Half of the gross debt in #Ligue1 is at just two clubs, Lyon â¬227m & Lille â¬61m (down from â¬129m), mainly driven by investment in new stadia. The next highest debt is Saint-Etienne with â¬40m. 10 clubs have less than â¬10m debt, including #PSG with zero financial liabilities. pic.twitter.com/cClOcCmEJt

Therefore the authorities have been ensuring that restrictions are in place to prevent overspending and Nancy were hit with a ban due to financial irregularities.
Nancy find a way around it
However, Ligue 2 clubs have complained because despite 14 passing the DNCG checks, Nancy have been able to conduct business through a loophole in their ban.
Due to the team’s association with Belgian side Oostende, they have managed to bring in players on loan, signed this summer by Belgian club.
For example, striker Andrew Jung was bought by Oostende and then loaned for two years to the French side.

Therefore 11 Ligue 2 clubs wrote to the DNCG president demanding action.
‘The club AS Nancy – Lorraine historical institution and respectable football French, is from the beginning  of the year with a new governance blithely bypasses recruitment procedures which it  has been imposed by the DNCG, following the review of its financial situation . Through the Belgian Ostend club, controlled by the same shareholders, ASNL does not respect  the constraints imposed on other L2 clubs. In view of this unfair competition and the flagrant inequity which ensues within the Ligue 2 championship, the undersigned clubs urge:
‘To the President of the DNCG to meet as soon as possible his committee to take the necessary measures following the non – compliance with the measures that he has notified to the club of AS N L. To the President of the LFP together as quickly as possible the Council of Directors for proposer any provision ensuring fair and equitable operation of the League 2 Championship , including  making contact with the Association European League s , which includes professional leagues European.’
