Former Leeds United striker Yeboah reveals why he sold Yegoala FC

Former Leeds United striker Tony Yeboah has finally revealed why he told his football club Yegoala FC.

Yeboah, who was the founder and president of defunct Division One side says poor officiating caused him to sell the club.

The 53-year-old sold the club to a Kumasi-based publisher Professor Joseph Albert Quarm.

He alleged that the unnamed referees vowed to punish his team and were successful in aiding their relegation.

“I wanted to give back to society after my career,” he told GTV Sports Plus in an interview.

“So I founded Yegola FC but poor officiating caused him to sell the club.”

Yeboah is considered one of the most prominent and prolific goal scorers in Ghana and African football history.

He was capped 59 times by the Black Stars, scoring 29 goals in the process.

He gained a reputation for scoring spectacular goals which often featured in Goal of the Month or Goal of the Season competitions, often celebrated by wagging his index finger towards the crowd.

He played for FC Saarbrücken, Eintracht Frankfurt, Leeds United and Hamburger SV during the 1990s. He also featured for Asante Kotoko, Cornerstones Kumasi, Okwawu United and Al-Ittihad Doha.
