Fenerbahçe are keen to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Salih Özcan

As reported via Bild, Turkish side Fenerbahçe are keen to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Salih Özcan in January.

With Fenerbahçe currently sitting at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig, they are hoping to strengthen the side during the winter to help fend off the challenge of Galatasaray in second. It is understood that a lucrative offer is already being prepared as they look to get the deal over the line.

However, it is a transfer that may have come a season too late. After an underwhelming first season in Dortmund, Özcan is finally proving his worth at the Westfalensatdion, displacing club captain Emre Can from holding midfield.

After Galatasaray were turned away by Dortmund in their attempt to sign Özcan in the summer, it would be hard to believe that Die Schwarzgelben would willingly let him depart halfway through the season. Regardless, Özcan has been capped 15 times by the Turkish national team and, therefore, could perhaps be persuaded by a permanent move to the country.

Nonetheless, it would take a substantial offer for BvB to depart with the in-form midfield in the winter, as a replacement would have to be found. With Edin Terzić’s side performing admirably in the Champions League, they will need to keep their squad together if they are to compete in the latter stages of the competition.
