FA Cup semi-final ties confirmed

The draw for this year’s FA Cup semi-final has been made, throwing up some very tasty ties indeed, including a repeat of the 2016 final.

Manchester United were the first to make their way into the semi-finals on Saturday evening, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side laboured to a 2-1 win over a 10 man Norwich after extra time, captain Harry Maguire netting a 118th-minute winner for the Red Devils.

The 12 time winners will play Chelsea – who have won the cup five times since 2007 – after they beat Leicester City 1-0 in a quarter-final that saw the third and fourth-placed Premier League sides come up against each other, Ross Barkley’s second-half strike ensuring the Foxes remain winless since the season’s restart.

Record-holding, 13-time winners, Arsenal also made it into the last four after Dani Ceballos netted a stoppage-time winner for Mikel Arteta’s side after Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick had equalised following Nicolas Pepe’s first-half penalty.

The draw for the semi-final took place at half time of Newcastle’s quarter final against Manchester City, Kevin de Bruyne giving the holders the lead from the spot in what has been a thoroughly dominant display, setting up the potential for a Manchester or London derby in the final on August 1st.
