Every Man Utd player will have chance ‘to stake a claim’

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick says every player at the club will have a chance to “stake a claim” for a place, ahead of expected rotation for the Champions League clash with Young Boys.

Rangnick has already confirmed that Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson – two players who had been unable to force their way into United’s team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – will start against Young Boys, with qualification for the last 16 of Europe’s primary competition already secured.

The German has also spoken at length previously about the need for United to continue breeding a winning mentality, and in his programme notes before the game against Young Boys (via Simon Peach), he hinted that the club’s fringe players will be given an opportunity to play their part.

“We have already seen that there is room to play with different formations – we had two up front on Sunday instead of one – & having a squad of this size & talent provides me with lots of options,” Rangnick said. “There will be chances for everybody to stake a claim.”

That could open the door for the likes of Jesse Lingard and Diogo Dalot to play more often for United – something the latter has already started to do of late after dislodging the out of form Aaron Wan-Bissaka from his starting berth at right back.
