Eric Garcia injury: Manchester City defender released from hospital after collision with Ederson

    Highlights: Manchester City vs. Arsenal
    (1:26)

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia has been released from the hospital one day after sustaining a head injury during a frightening collision. Garcia needed to be taken off the field on a stretcher after colliding with Man City goalkeeper, Ederson, during the second half of Wednesday’s game against Arsenal.

Garcia was running back toward his team’s goal on a long ball from Arsenal and Ederson collided with his defender as the goalkeeper charged forward to punch the ball away. Ederson walked away from the incident unharmed. Garcia was stabilized and carted off with a head injury as players around him looked on in concern.

City announced on Thursday that he was released from the hospital in the morning and is being monitored.

“Eric Garcia has been released from hospital after suffering an injury during last night’s Premier League win over Arsenal. Eric will be monitored in the coming days, ahead of a return to training and competitive action. Everyone at City wishes Eric a speedy recovery,” the club wrote on Twitter.

It’s unclear when he will be able to return to training, much less an actual game, but the fact that he was out of the hospital in less than 24 hours is positive news.

For Ederson, this wasn’t his first nasty crash outside of the box at the Etihad. A few seasons back, he was on the wrong end of a challenge from Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and had to be carted off with a gruesome injury, while Mane was shown a red card.

City won Wednesday’s game, 3-0, in the team’s first Premier League action in more than three months.
