Euro Fantasy Football, June 13th updates
Euro 2020 is now in full swing, with another three games set to get underway later today.
The first of these will see England host Croatia in their first group clash of the tournament.
England are likely favourites heading into the game, but Croatia still have a number of players who could cause the Three Lions problems.
We will then see Austria and North Macedonia face off, the latter entering the group stages for the first time in their history.
Our final game of the day, taking place at 8 PM UK time, sees Netherlands and Ukraine go head-to-head, the former of which are favourites to Group C.
England: England have a couple of potential injury concerns ahead of Sunday’s game, the most obvious of course being Harry Maguire.
The centre-back missed the end of the 2020/21 campaign with an ankle issue and played no part in the Three Lions’ recent friendlies.
In a boost to England, Maguire began training with the 26-man squad on Thursday, suggesting he will be able to play some role at Euro 2020. Whether that begins against Croatia, however, remains up in the air. As a result, it is probably best to leave him out of your side for now.
Croatia: Croatia have no known injuries heading into their meeting with England.
Austria: Austria have a fully fit 26-man squad ahead of their clash on Sunday.
North Macedonia: North Macedonia have no injury concerns at present.
Netherlands: The Netherlands have already lost the services of Donny van de Beek ahead of the tournament.
Elsewhere, Matthijs de Ligt picked up a groin injury earlier this month and his participation vs Ukraine has now been ruled out.
Ukraine: Ukraine have zero injury issues at present.
Top 3 players to pick: Harry Kane, Memphis Depay, Ivan Perisic
Harry Kane, England (11.5m)
Harry Kane is one of the must haves in any Fantasy side this summer.
The Englishman won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup and should have a similarly prolific tournament this time around.
England’s game this matchweek will see them face Croatia, arguably their toughest opponent in Group D.
However, Croatia are not the side they were back in 2018, and whilst England’s defence is something of a concern at present, their attack is littered with top talent and Kane is certainly the best of them.
Kane is also England’s main penalty taker, making his chances of a decent return at Euro 2020 even higher.
Memphis Depay, Netherlands (10m)
The Netherlands have been hit quite hard by injuries of late. Star centre-back Virgil van Dijk is of course out of the tournament, and, as mentioned above, de Ligt is also an injury concern at present.
Despite the concerns at the back, however, the Oranje still have a fierce attack.
Memphis Depay is the best of the bunch and has been in fine form his country of late, scoring seven and assisting three in his last seven.
Depay, like Kane, is his countries’ main penalty taker, a factor which should not be underestimated when selecting your EFF team.
Ivan Perisic, Croatia (8.5m)
The final player you should pick from Sunday’s games is Ivan Perisic.
Croatia are facing England and may end up losing the tie. However, they should still be able to cause the Three Lions’ backline – especially if they do not have Harry Maguire – a few issues.
Ivan Perisic his perhaps Croatia’s best choice from an EFF perspective, with the midfielder a really solid option at just 8.5m.
He has scored two and assisted one in his last three and is likely to be involved in anything positive Croatia can create going forward.
Captain of the day: Harry Kane
The captain of the day for Sunday is quite close. Both Harry Kane and Memphis Depay should be solid picks.
So, if you just have one of these players in your side, then obviously captaining them would be a smart choice.
If you need to chose from both, however, Kane is perhaps your best bet because as well as scoring a lot, his ability to create is superb, as we saw during the 2020/21 campaign with Tottenham when he won the Premier League Play Maker of the Season award.
