Duncan Ferguson speaks out on possibility of becoming permanent Everton manager

Everton are set to take on Aston Villa in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off.

Ahead of the game, Duncan Ferguson would hold Everton’s pre-match press conference.

Ferguson is currently the Toffees’ caretaker manager following the dismissal of Rafa Benitez last weekend after a 2-1 loss to Norwich.

When speaking to the press on Friday, Ferguson would be asked about the possibility of becoming Everton’s permanent manager and stated:

“I think maybe down the line, one day I always dream about it. Of course I’ve not quite got that experience. The club will go through a process identifying a new manager and then bring him in.

“You never know if football do you? What happens down the line will be down to the club. We’re always looking for the best managers in the world.”

Duncan Ferguson is currently the favourite to take the job on a permanent basis, being priced at 7/4 with Betfair.

    Everton vs Aston Villa

Elsewhere in his press conference, Ferguson would speak about the Villa game.

The Toffees have won just one of their last 13 Premier League matches. This has seen the Merseysiders move down to 16th in the league and to within six points of the relegation zone.

Ferguson, though, does not believe his side are truly in a fight to stay up right now: “I don’t see it quite like that.

“But if we don’t improve quickly, things might not be too good for us.”

As for the Villa game, Ferguson, when quizzed on team selection, appeared to suggest we would see some changes this weekend:

“If you’re going on a losing run we’ve been on, you’ve got to make changes.”
