David Prutton’s midweek EFL predictions – 30th June

David Prutton’s midweek EFL predictions are out with another busy schedule set to get underway in the Championship on Tuesday evening.

The former Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Leeds, Swindon, Sheffield Wednesday and England U21 footballer turned presenter, pundit and commentator is often accurate when it comes to the results, however has found it tougher with the scores. See his latest batch below…

    MILLWALL v SWANSEA

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “Millwall haven’t quite got going yet after the restart, and their play-off ambitions are starting to drift away a little. They need to get a win soon.

“Swansea missed a big chance to kick on at home to Luton on Saturday, and also need to get back on track so the sides above them don’t start pulling away. They are a good side, but it remains to be seen whether they can deal with Millwall. I fancy a narrow home win here.”

    SCORE PREDICTION: Millwall 1-0 Swansea

    LEEDS v LUTON

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “That was a huge win for Leeds against Fulham on Saturday. They got battered at times in the first half after taking the lead, but Marcelo Bielsa’s changes at the break paid off and it was comfortable in the end. It kept the daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

“Luton did brilliantly to claim all three points at Swansea. It is four points from six now under Nathan Jones from two tough games and they will have real hopes of survival. They will give it a good go at Elland Road, but I feel they may come unstuck.”

    SCORE PREDICTION: Leeds 2-1 Luton

    PRESTON v DERBY

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “That was a poor result for Preston against a play-off rival on Saturday. It is four defeats and a draw in five games either side of the restart now.

“Derby, meanwhile, are flying. Four wins on the spin and suddenly they look a real contender for the play-offs. I do, however, think that Preston will get their act together a little and get a draw here.”

    SCORE PREDICTION: Preston 1-1 Derby

    BIRMINGHAM v HUDDERSFIELD

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “Birmingham looked like they were already on holiday in the first half against Hull on Saturday, then turned up and put in an excellent display in the second. They may have nothing to play for but their season isn’t done just yet.

“Huddersfield will be worried. Danny Cowley was certainly concerned after that defeat at Nottingham Forest. They don’t look like they have a goal in them and have dropped into the bottom three. I reckon they could be edged out at St Andrew’s.”

    SCORE PREDICTION: Birmingham 1-0 Huddersfield

    SHEFFIELD WED v WEST BROM

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “Sheffield Wednesday were really good in large parts of the game against Bristol City on Sunday, and looked as though they were the side really chasing the play-offs.

“West Brom will be concerned now. Another defeat and the gap to third could be closed again. They are struggling for goals, too, and I think they will be held by Wednesday.”

SCORE PREDICTION: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 West Brom

    HULL v MIDDLESBROUGH

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “They may not have held on for the win at Birmingham on Saturday, but you have to admire Hull and Grant McCann for getting a performance out of his side considering all the issues at the club.

“This would have been tough to call a week or so ago, but with Neil Warnock at the club Middlesbrough are a completely different proposition. I can’t see past them taking all three points.”

    SCORE PREDICTION: Hull 0-2 Middlesbrough

    BARNSLEY v BLACKBURN

David Prutton has predicted that it will be a 1-1 draw between strugglers Barnsley and Birmingham, who sit just below mid-table.

Should results go the Tykes way, they could go from four points to one from safety. Birmingham are seven points above the relegation zone.

    CARDIFF v CHARLTON

David Prutton has predicted that it will be a 2-0 win for the Bluebirds, who are unbeaten since restarting. They currently sit in the playoffs, three points ahead of playoff chasing Preston.

Charlton are another team that have improved their results with vital wins over Hull and QPR. Though Prutton think Neil Harris’ side will be too strong for the Addicks.

    READING v BRENTFORD

David Prutton has predicted that it will be a 1-0 win high flyers Brentford, who have won their last three matches to guide them up to 3rd in the Championship table.

Reading are seven points above the drop zone, but they have inconsistent results of recent, and Brentford are expected to continue their fine form.

    QPR v FULHAM

David Prutton has predicted that it will be a 1-1 draw between Queens Park Rangers and Fulham. Both teams have lost two games in a row. The R’s are 10 points from reaching the playoffs and eight from the relegation zone.

The Cottagers are seven points from the automatic promotion places and seven from the first team just outside the playoff places.

    WIGAN v STOKE

David Prutton has predicted that it will be a 2-1 win for Wigan, who have the best form in the league right now. They are unbeaten in eight matches and are expected to beat relegation candidates Stoke who have only won once in their last five games.

    NOTT’M FOREST v BRISTOL CITY

David Prutton has predicted that it will be a 2-0 win for Nottingham Forest, who despite inconsistent results, have risen to 4th in the table. Bristol City looked to be chasing a playoff place, however they have fallen to 12th in the table, not winning any of their last seven games.
