Chicago Fire FC midfielder Jeremiah Gutjahr out four months after successful meniscus surgery

Chicago Fire FC midfielder Jeremiah Gutjahr has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his right knee, according to a Thursday release from the club.

The procedure was performed at the Rush Oak Brook Surgery Center on Wednesday, with Gutjahr expected to return to training in four months.

The 22-year-old Gutjahr signed with the club on a Homegrown contract in January 2019, starting five of his eight appearances last season and recording one assist across 502 minutes. He played in the Chicago academy from 2012-2015 before enjoying a standout career at Indiana University as a defensive midfielder, recording two goals and three assists in 71 games for the Hoosiers before returning to the Fire. Gutjahr started 23 of his 24 appearances for Indiana his senior season, helping the team to a No. 1 ranking and an NCAA-high 15 shutouts.

Gutjahr also made three appearances for the US U-20s in 2017, featuring against Haiti, Mexico and El Salvador as the US claimed its first U-20 Concacaf Championship.
