Chelsea open talks over move for Premier League star

Belgium may be considered lucky to have beaten Canada on Wednesday, with Roberto Martinez having watched his side struggle against the North Americans.

Michy Batshuayi’s first-half goal proved to be the difference for Belgium, who had goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to thank after he saved an early penalty from Alphonso Davies.

Martinez handed Leandro Trossard his World Cup debut in the second-half, with the Brighton and Hove Albion man replacing Eden Hazard.

Trossard has been in sensational form for The Seagulls so far this term, but it appears that he could now be on his way out of The Amex.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are set to begin talks over a proposed move for the winger.

The 27-year-old has started the season in fine form, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 14 Premier League games.

His performances have attracted interest from a number of other clubs including Arsenal, but the report claims that it is Chelsea that are entering into preliminary talks.

Trossard’s contract is set to expire next summer but Brighton aren’t willing to sell him in January, despite Chelsea’s interest.

Potter has already been reunited with Marc Cucurella

The Seagulls do, however, have the option to extend his deal by a further 12 months, which could prevent them from losing him for free next summer.

The versatile winger, who can also played as an attacking midfielder or a centre forward, joined Brighton from Belgian side Genk in 2019 and made his debut for Belgium a year later.

To date he has scored 25 goals in 118 games for The Seagulls, as well as providing 14 assists, and he was a regular under Chelsea boss Graham Potter during his time in charge of the south coast side.

Potter was reunited with Marc Cucurella when he took over at Stamford Bridge, and it appears that he is keen on recruiting another of his former players.

Potter has also been joined at Stamford Bridge by a number of his former backroom staff.
