Chelsea midfielder cools transfer talk | Shoot

Chelsea fans face a nervy wait to find out whether or not the Blues will secure a top four finish this season, after a shock 1-0 home defeat by Arsenal allowed Liverpool to cut the gap.

Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated bitter rivals Manchester United the following evening to cut Chelsea’s advantage to just four points, with the Reds having a game in hand too.

The result means that Chelsea realistically will need a positive result from both of their remaining two games, against Leicester and Aston Villa, to confirm their place in next season’s Champions League.

Failure to qualify via this route will mean that Thomas Tuchel’s side will have to beat Manchester City in the Champions League final at the end of the month to qualify for next year’s competition.

Arsenal’s only goal during Wednesday night’s victory over the Blues came courtesy of Emile Smith Rowe, who was in the right place to convert Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s pass after the Gabon international had capitalised on a huge mistake from Jorginho.

Following the Italian’s howler, there was once again speculation linking him with a departure from Stamford Bridge this summer, however the former Napoli man has cooled rumours by appearing to verbally commit his future to the club.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup final against Leicester on Saturday, Jorginho – via The Independent – explained that he is settled in SW6 and has no intentions of moving.

“Of course, of course I do feel settled,” he said.

“When I came here, everything was different, but I felt welcome straight away.

“It feels great here, and I know everyone here appreciates what I try to do for the club and for the people. It feels like home now in England.

Jorginho’s wayward backless lead to Arsenal’s goal on Wednesday evening

“It’s definitely not the time to talk about contracts with two finals to play. How could I want to leave the club? That’s not the point.
“I’ve got two more years and, like I said, I feel really at home here.”

The 29-year-old had been heavily linked with a potential move to Juventus when former Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, who also managed Jorginho at Napoli, departed for the Old Lady in 2019.

However, a move never materialised and the Brazilian born midfielder stayed in West London, despite struggling for regular game time under previous manager Frank Lampard.

Since the arrival of Tuchel, however, Jorginho has once again become a mainstay in the Blues’ midfield.

In recent months, he had been linked with a return to Napoli, however speculation on both fronts has cooled of late and Jorginho’s comments will deter from this.
