Chelsea bound Ziyech bids emotional farewell to Ajax

Ajax is the greatest team in the Netherlands and it is an honor to have the experience of putting on the club’s shirt, says Hakim Ziyech.

Hakim Ziyech completed a €11 million transfer from FC Twente to Ajax on a five-year deal back in 2016.

Ziyech did not take long to become a key cog in the Dutch team before establishing himself as one of Eredivisie‘s, and eventually Europe’s, finest playmakers.

His quality is evident from the fact that he has been named Ajax Player of the Year, made into the Eredivisie Team of the Year, and has topped the league assist charts in each of the last three seasons.

The Moroccan is now set to bring an end to his four-year spell at the Johan Cruyff Arena and embark on a new journey. Come July, he will join Chelsea on a five-year deal.

The 27-year old has paid tribute to his soon-to-be ex-club while thanking them for his development as a player.

Ziyech wrote in an Instagram post: “The last 4 years were amazing. I don’t even know where to start for expressing how I’ve experienced this journey.

“I want to thank everyone at Ajax for making this next step possible. You have all played a part in my progression over the last years. I hope you are proud of that, at least I’m proud to have worn the jersey of the best team in the Netherlands. Until we meet again.”
