Chelsea boosted by returning duo but face formation chaos for Zenit clash

    Chelsea see duo return

Chelsea travel to Russia to take on Zenit St Petersburg in their final Champions League group game.

The reigning European champions go into the tie safe of their place in the next round of the competition, but knowing that they have to match Juventus’ result (who have a home tie against whipping boys Malmo at the same time).

Therefore, it is unsurprising to see Thomas Tuchel name a strong side, despite the injury issues that sees him deprived of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, N’golo Kante and Ben Chilwell.

Perhaps most exciting for Chelsea fans is the return of both Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku from spells on the sidelines, offering the Blues a whole different dimension at the top of the pitch. They last played together against Malmo in this competition, before both were forced off with injury before half time.

    Formation confusion

In the team sheet, however, are several different systems, which have prompted speculation among the Chelsea fanbase.

As per UEFA, notoriously unreliable for team shapes, the Blues will revert to a back 4, with Cesar Azpilicueta moving to left-back in Ben Chilwell’s absence.

    However, fans have other ideas:

What do you make of the side?
