After Fulham returned to Championship action last weekend with a 2-0 defeat to local rivals Brentford, decided late on after a tight contest, Leeds failed to take their opportunity to move ten points clear of Scott Parker’s Cottagers, losing 2-0 away to Cardiff City the following day after failing to take their chances and being taught a lesson in clinicalness by Neil Harris’ Bluebirds.
That sets this up as a crunch clash that could well define the automatic promotion race for both sides; a win for Leeds would put them 10 points clear of Scott Parker’s Cottagers in the top two, while if Fulham can leave Elland Road victorious they’ll have closed the gap to just four points.
The reverse fixture shortly before Christmas was set up in a similar way, but Leeds squandered an opportunity to build an unassailable lead as Fulham gained ground with a 2-1 win at Craven Cottage. Another 2-1 win for Fulham is priced at 14/1, while the league’s top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic (23 goals) is only the third favourite to score here at 21/10 anytime or 13/2, having put Fulham ahead with an early penalty the last time these two sides met.
We recommend backing Leeds to get the win here, at 7/10. They looked a little out of sorts last week but might well have won were it not for a few minor differences. They’re 15/8 to win to nil here, which they did five times in a row pre-lockdown, or 6/1 to win 1-0, which they managed on three consecutive occasions during that run.
