Casemiro: My goal against Espanyol belongs to Benzema

Casemiro has heaped praise on Karim Benzema for a moment of magic that led to him scoring the winning goal against Espanyol.

Real Madrid managed to squeeze out all three points from the match against Espanyol as they ended up with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Karim Benzema, who has been in a red-hot form since the return of football, made a glorious backheel pass through the legs of an opponent to find Casemiro who then just had to tap the ball home.

The stunning pass to set up his teammate took the Frenchman’s assist tally to 10 in all competitions this season.

Such sensational was the piece of skill the even the goalscorer insists that his goal was all about Benzema’s assist.

“The goal is Karim’s,” Casemiro said after the match [via Marca].

“We’re used to the quality that he has and the quality with which he plays. I had to celebrate with him because the credit goes to him. We know his quality and that’s why I called for the ball – because I knew he could find me.

“Espanyol are in the past now and we’re already thinking about Getafe. We want to win every game. We want to win this league.”
