Blues and Foxes deprived each other on separate fronts

The FA Cup final at Wembley was one game that Chelsea went into as favorites but ended up losing as Leicester City were up for it, with the London outfit not being able to breach their backline successfully.

A screamer by Youri Tielemans was enough to settle the matter on the day as the Foxes won another major silverware after their Premier League triumph some seasons back.

It can also be recalled that ahead of the FA Cup final, there was also little concern about who would finish in the top four as both sides who thought they were home and dry allowed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool back into the race for a place in the top four with their inconsistencies.

The two sides were to face each other in another season-defining game in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

Although the Foxes emerged triumphant in the FA Cup tie, the quest for UEFA Champions League qualification is also major and the Foxes haven’t done themselves enough good after losing 2:1 to Chelsea on Tuesday night. The Blues had sweet revenge although both sides gathered their spoils on different fronts.

It can be recalled that Leicester lost out of a place in the UCL last season on the final day in a home loss to Manchester United.

They’ll be facing Tottenham Hotspur on the last day of the 2020/21 season away from home in a game where Spurs may also be required to win and consolidate on their Europa League place.

Liverpool is a major concern presently as they look hellbent on making the UCL if any of Chelsea or Leicester slip further. They face Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night and could leapfrog the Foxes on the log if they win and score as many goals as needed.

Therefore, it remains to be seen who lost more at the end of the season between Chelsea and Leicester in those two clashes. The FA Cup triumph signified a major feat for the Foxes but a place in next season’s UCL would be golden.

Chelsea, on the other hand, may have lost the game on Saturday but did themselves a lot of good with the win against Brendan Rodgers’ men on Tuesday night.

After the investments they made, they can’t afford to miss out on the UCL next season or solely rely on victory against Manchester City in the upcoming UCL final on May 29.

Leicester will be hoping that Sean Dyche’s men do them a favor tonight by halting Liverpool’s run although the Reds seem determined. The last gasp winner by goalkeeper Alisson against West Brom against all odds at the Hawthorns spoke volumes of their intent.

We wait to see how things pan out on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Leicester deprived each other evenly, in my opinion.
