Bianca St. Georges makes her long-awaited NWSL debut – Equalizer Soccer

    Bianca St. Georges was selected in the third round of the 2019 draft by the Chicago Red Stars. The next day, she underwent surgery on her knee.

    She had torn her meniscus the summer before, but with the injury coming so close to her senior season of college soccer, the defender elected to play through the pain and deal with it later.

    Typically, meniscus injuries are relatively quick fixes and require only a few weeks of rehab. But for St. Georges, her first action in the National Women’s Soccer League wouldn’t come for some time. Her first competitive minutes in 18 months finally came on Saturday, when she started for the Chicago Red Stars in their opening match of the 2020 Challenge Cup, a 2-1 loss to the Washington Spirit.

    “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” she told The Equalizer.
