Bayern Munich renew interest in Hudson-Odoi, while Juventus and Leipzig also linked

Bayern Munich are set to renew their interest in Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Juventus and RB Leipzig also reportedly monitoring the youngster following a frustrating period at Stamford Bridge.

Hudson-Odoi was regarded as one of English football’s most promising talents after breaking into the Chelsea first-team, with Bayern first expressing an interest in signing the teenager during the January transfer window in 2019, seeing several offers rejected.

The academy graduate’s future remained uncertain as Bayern made a second approach in the summer, only for Hudson-Odoi to sign a new long-term contract with the west London side as they began a new era under the guidance of Frank Lampard.

Since then, however, it has been a frustrating period for the thrice-capped England international who has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular, a series of setbacks hampering his progress after recovering from a long-term Achilles injury.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Bayern are now preparing to return for the winger, the European champions keen to strengthen their wide options after Ivan Perisic returned to Inter Milan following a season-long loan spell.

Bayern’s are yet to make an approach but their bid will be a loan deal with an option to buy, whilst Juventus and RB Leipzig are also considering moves, though the finances of the deal may prove problematic for the latter with Hudson-Odoi reportedly earning in the region of €8.5m-a-year at Stamford Bridge.

The signings of attacking players in Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech has increased competition for places across the forward line at Chelsea, with Hudson-Odoi restricted to just 10 minutes of the season opener at Brighton despite the absence of both Ziyech and fellow winger Christian Pulisic.

The Bundesliga has proved to be a good proving ground for young English talent in recent seasons, a number of players following Jadon Sancho’s lead in opting for a move to the German top flight.
