Quique Setien is planning to rotate his Barcelona squad ahead of the visit of Leganes on Tuesday evening.
The Barcelona boss wants to keep his players fresh over the course of the run-in in LaLiga Santander and will make changes from the team that started against Real Mallorca on Saturday.
In fact, Setien‘s rotation policy was already on show as Son Moix as the likes of Arturo Vidal, Ronald Araujo and Martin Braithwaite started.
Those three could all be left out at the Camp Nou on Tuesday.
“The idea is to make changes,” Setien told the press on Monday.
“We’ll see how the fatigue affects the players, but I want to go into the end [of the season] with the necessary freshness so that the performance isn’t affected by the minutes.”
With Friday’s trip to face Sevilla at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in mind, Setien is expected to make several changes against Leganes.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann are all untouchable, but the rest of the starting line-up at Mallorca could be rested.
At left-back, Jordi Alba will be replaced by Junior Firpo, while Nelson Semedo and Samuel Umtiti or Clement Lenglet could come in for Sergi Roberto and Araujo, respectively.
It’s not clear who will play in attack against Javier Aguirre‘s side, but Griezmann is expected to keep his place.
“He’s undisputable. He will keep being a key player,” Setien said of the Frenchman.
“He’s an important player for the club and for the team.”
Luis Suarez could start to complete the MSG trident, but Setien doesn’t want to take risks with his fitness.
