Barcelona Barcelona won’t have it easy
Villarreal have been in fine form since LaLiga Santander returned.
They’ve gone unbeaten in their six games so far, winning five of those, and they host Barcelona on Sunday evening keen to continue that run.
The Catalans will be concerned as they make the trip, knowing that their opponents always lift their performance against Spain’s top teams.
When facing sides beneath them, Villarreal tend to slip up – which has seen Leganes, Celta Vigo and even Espanyol take points from them.
But when they take on the bigger sides, they rarely disappoint.
Seven of the top 10 teams have already travelled to take on Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Valencia lost 2-0, Getafe lost 1-0, Real Madrid and Sevilla both drew 2-2, Atletico Madrid were held to a scoreless draw and Granada, who are European hopefuls, drew 4-4.
Villarreal have taken 16 points from 18 since the restart, making them contenders for the top four and Champions League qualification.
They’ll have to maintain their recent run against Barcelona and beyond if they are to qualify, though.
Getafe, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Eibar are still to come, meaning they’ll need to be at their best if they are to leapfrog Sevilla into fourth.
