Barcelona presidential candidate claims he’s had ‘several conversations’ with Liverpool boss Klopp

Barcelona presidential candidate, Jordi Farre, has claimed he has held ‘several conversations’ with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp over the possibility of taking charge at the Camp Nou.

The Spanish giants will hold elections over their presidency early next year, with a number of candidates hoping to succeed Josep Maria Bartomeu as president and revive the club’s fortunes following a disappointing season for the Catalan side.

Barcelona’s underwhelming season – including an 8-2 Champions League humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich – has seen Quique Setien sacked and replaced by former player Ronald Koeman ahead of the new campaign, though presidential candidate Farre believes Klopp could be the man to bring success back to Barca and reveals initial discussions have taken place.

“If Koeman works and does well, I would, of course,” Farre told Sport when asked if he would keep the newly-appointed manager at the club.

“Obviously, we have our roadmap and we had already had several conversations with Jurgen Klopp, because it seems to us that Barcelona needs such a coach.”

Farre’s claims are likely to be part of lavish promises to boost his bid and chances of being elected at the Camp Nou, however, with Klopp having already outlined his future plans – the German expected to stay at Liverpool until the end of his contract in 2024 before taking a sabbatical.

Amongst the candidates for March’s elections also includes former president Joan Laporta, the Spanish lawyer having previously spent seven years in the position, overseeing a period that included the signing of Ronaldinho and appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager.
