Barcelona Hit out at Bartomeu
Barcelona presidential candidate Agusti Benedito is under no illusions as to how drastic the situation facing the Catalan club is.
The club’s on-field issues were more evident than ever in their 8-2 drubbing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, but problems have been clear for some time now.
“We’re in a very worrying situation,” Benedito told Radio MARCA.
“It’s perhaps the worst in the club’s recent history.”
Looking to succeed Josep Maria Bartomeu, Benedito didn’t hold back in criticising the current president.
“[Sandro] Rosell and Bartomeu have already overtaken [Joan] Gaspart as the worst Barcelona presidents,” he added.
“We all remember the club he took over and how he’s going to leave it.”
Supporters have grown frustrated with Bartomeu and his board, and Benedito was quick to point them out as the most important people at the club.
“Clubs are made up of people,” he said.
“We cannot forget that they belong to the fans and only exist because of them.”
