Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko could be close to an exit from the club with AC Milan interested. According to Fabrizio Romano, the French midfielder will leave the Blues this summer and has been linked with a return to San Siro.
Talks over a potential move for the midfielder between the two clubs have progressed smoothly and a deal is set to be finalized. Bakayoko already has an agreement of terms with AC Milan and the loan contract will include an option to buy clause in June 2021.
This move comes as no surprise as the French midfielder is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge with the Blues set for a major overhaul in the summer. The Blues have already signed Timo Werner, Hakim Zyech, and Xavier Mbuyamba, who arrived on a free transfer.
They are also working out deals for top targets like Kai Havetz, Ben Chilwell, and PSG’s Thiago Silva. The Frenchman’s departure should provide some funds to help with these potential deals. The deal involving Kai Havertz is the biggest amongst the lot with a fee of close to €100 million being reported.
The Blues have already let go of aging stars like Pedro and Willian, and Bakayoko appears to be next in line to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. Danny Drinkwater is also expected to leave Chelsea with the reports also suggesting that the Blues may consider selling midfielder Jorginho. A possible return to Serie A could be on the cards for the Italy international.
Bakayoko will be a welcome addition to AC Milan as he impressed in his time at the club in 2018. The Frenchman is on a path of career redemption having failed to impress at Chelsea after joining from Monaco.
AC Milan have been impressive under Stefano Pioli and finished the 2019/20 season on a high. They already have a decent midfield that includes Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer. The Rossoneri need a decent replacement for the likes of Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura who have left the club.
