Arteta expresses concern Arsenal is a “selling club”

Mikel Arteta has spoken about the rebuilding process at Arsenal and his concerns about operating as a selling club.

Arsenal has lured some of the biggest names in football to North London over the years.

The likes of Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Marc Overmars, Alexis Sanchez, and Mesut Ozil to name but a few.

All players in their prime, or a prodigious talent that everyone else wanted but the Gunners aquired their services.

However, they have also sometimes struggled to keep those same stars for the duration. Henry jumped ship to Barcelona, as did Overmars and Van Persie went to United.

The club now finds itself in a similar position with the likes of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

The stigma of being a selling club is not one many clubs want, especially the likes of Arsenal.

The so-called big boys know you must balance the books and will come in and take your best players leaving you to start all over again.

This is not somehting that Mikel Arteta relishes the thought of.

In an interview reported by Goal, he voices concern at the thought.

    He said:

“We cannot be a team that has to sell his best player to try to bring in and improve our squad, that’s for sure.”

“We don’t know how the market is going to be, we have seen different things.”

“The way that Chelsea is dealing with the market is different to rest at the moment, but Bayern Munich as well they’ve have been really aggressive.”

“Obviously we are putting different plans together to see what we are going to be able to do.”

“At the moment the uncertainty is still big. The way we are going to finish the season will dictate a lot of things financially as well. We have to be a bit patient and see what happens.”

Who will Mikel Arteta ship out this summer to help his rebuild while balancing the books at the Emirates Stadium?
