Arsenal to axe 10 scouts in bid to cut costs amid COVID-19 crisis

Arsenal FC are reportedly set to relieve several members of staff of their duties at the club in an attempt to recover from the financial hit they’ve suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a report by Mail, as many as 10 of the club’s scouts will be affected by this recent development.

These are are the scouts who played vital roles in the unearthing of the likes of Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka. The report notes that they’ve already been informed of their fate at the Emirates.

The recruitment staff were informed via mail that their contracts with the club would not be renewed when they reach expiration at the end of June.

The report also notes that other members of staff at the club are unsettled as their positions at the club may not be safe in these present times.

The London club carried out a major restructuring of the scouting system in the early stages of the season. The changes that were made resulted in the exit of Steve Morrow, the head of youth recruitment at the time.

He was not the only one affected as other key figures at the academy such as David Lee, Kevin Beadell, and Dan Rice also left the club.

On Thursday, reports were rife that the club’s chief’s are planning a mass exodus of the first-team players when the summer transfer window reopens. Former Chelsea defender David Luiz is one of the four stars that are set to leave the club this summer.

David Luiz signed a one-year contract when he moved to The Emirates from Chelsea in 2019 and not a two-year deal as was widely reported at the time. Reports have confirmed that he has not been offered an extension either.

Meanwhile, a reliable source when it comes to news about Arsenal, David Ornstein, has disclosed that the club will also look to sell the trio of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and Rob Holding this summer.
