Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard has joined Premier League outfit Arsenal on loan until the end of the season. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan to Real Sociedad in La Liga where he impressed considerably.
He returned to the Bernabeu in the summer and was expected to be given a role in the side under Zinedine Zidane.
However, this was not the case as he found a place in the team hard to come by, hence the decision to leave on another loan adventure.
Martin Odegaard was formerly one of the most talented and sought-after youngsters in Europe. He will now have the chance to show what he’s made of in the Premier League; And where better than a club in dire need of a proper attacking midfielder?
On agreeing to the move, it will cost Arsenal a fee of £2.5m on top of the player’s salary. Odegaard was interested in a return to Real Sociedad but Real Madrid preferred Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta also did his job to convince the midfielder that the Emirates would provide the perfect challenge for him.
In my opinion, this loan move for the Norwegian came late as his time at the Bernabeu this season didn’t afford him the chance to blossom and improve. It’s good they realized they had to let him leave and blossom elsewhere.
