Arsenal legend says his former club should strip star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captaincy

Arsenal legend Martin Keown says his former club should strip star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the captaincy, when speaking to Talksport

It seems Gunners boss Mikel Arteta could have a decision on his hands when the Premier League returns, with star striker Aubameyang in the middle of a transfer storm.

Strong rumours are linking the Gabon international with a move away from the Emirates, as the goalscorer seeks Champions League football.

It’s a difficult situation for Arteta with nine Premier League games still remaining, he will be wary of rocking the apple cart, with Aubameyang currently doing the business in front of goal.

However, ex-Arsenal man Keown feels differently.

Keown said: “I think the message needs to be to the player, ‘Look, we can’t have you captaining the club if there’s uncertainty around your contract’, in the last year of his contract, that can’t be allowed to happen.”
