Antonio Conte confirms “serious” injury blow for Tottenham

Antonio Conte has been handed a major injury blow after he confirmed that Cristian Romero’s hamstring problem is “serious”.

Romero sustained the injury playing for Argentina last week and missed the victory over Leeds, with the Tottenham boss unable to specify an exact timescale.

On Friday, he said: “We’ve bad news about Cristian Romero about his injury. I spoke to the doctors and now it’s to wait 7-10 days for another scan to see how long it will take him to recover.”

Conte didn’t appear too concerned about the injury before the game with Leeds, but when asked to provide an update ahead of the Europa Conference League trip to Mura tomorrow, he described the problem as “serious”.

“About Cristian Romero, we’re waiting for another scan,” said the Spurs boss. “Honestly, I think his injury is serious. We have to wait. I don’t know the time, he needs to recovery.”

It’s still unclear when Romero could return to action, but it appears likely that the defender, who started the first two games on the Conte era, will miss the remainder of the group stages of the Conference League, Carabao Cup quarter final and possibly the entire festive period.
