Analysing Brentford’s Recruitment Strategy : Championship

Our recruitment is very, very good. We’ve had some iffy ones which I’ll get into, but in the end, we’re one of the best. But to play devil’s advocate, it was arguably a double-edged sword this season.

Frank pissed about ten games not knowing what our best 11 and formation was. That cost us. (I guess Barnsley, Stoke etc too but had some dumb results at the start of the season). And then we get to a play-off final against a team that knows how to get out this league and the result was unsurprising. We didn’t have a lot of experience at that level.

If we want to go up we need to avoid summers like 2019, and presumably 2020, a little more. Upheaval cost us huge points early on.

And as for the poor transfers since we’ve taken this stats-based approach we’ve had some great contenders.

Gogia? Kerschbaumer (loved him though), Hoffmann, unfortunately Karelis but injuries at play there. Lord knows how we got that fee for Konsa.
