31-year-old midfielder gets emotional about Spurs –

Tottenham fan-favourite Sandro has spoken of his love for the club as he considers an early retirement from the game.

Sandro joined Spurs in the summer of 2010 and went on to make 106 appearances for the Londoners across all competitions before leaving for QPR.

Knee injuries blighted his Tottenham career but he did enough to become a bit of a cult hero at White Hart Lane, in part because of stunning goals against Chelsea and Manchester United.

He was also an excellent defensive midfielder on his day, protecting the back four with strength and guile.

But his injuries have now taken their toll, and in an interview with the Athletic, the 31-year-old has revealed he is “prepared for retirement”.

He also spoke about his time at Spurs, a club he clearly still has a lot of adoration for.

“I just loved playing for Tottenham,” Sandro said. “Loved it. The people there… mate, it was sensational. I get goosebumps just talking about it. It was an inexplicable thing. I felt this special feeling inside. You don’t get that at every club, but I did there.

“I just found everything so beautiful. White Hart Lane: I loved that place so much. I would have played for free if they had asked me to.”

It’s sad to think what could have been with Sandro. As a young player, he looked like he could go on to become a regular presence in Tottenham’s midfield.

No doubt he did enough to be invited back to N17 in the future, and the Spurs supporters will be delighted to see him.
